After witnessing the tragic events of game 7 last year, it is tough to get your hopes up for the next year. But I get up in the morning to see what my day will behold. Then at night, I will try to watch the Bruins. Although it is still painful, I do my best to stay positive even though I still suffer from Lost-Stanley-Cup-itis. I literally “Cry at Night”.

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly ***The ugly will not be shown

Good: This is a new year that will bring many ups and downs. While writing this, the Bruins have just broken a 5 game losing streak which is good and bad. The good thing is that the Bruins are first in the Atlantic Division. Their record of 21-7-6 (48 pts) is 9 points better than the 2nd best team in the Atlantic (Buffalo Sabres- 16-11-7/ 39 pts). Also, the goaltending this year has been great. Jaroslav Halak and Tuukka Rask are potentially the best goalie tandem in the league. All seems to be good for this Bruins team that looks to be bound for another playoff spot in April. Keep in mind though, anything can happen as we saw last year with the St. Louis Blues.

Bad: The bad this is that the Bruins in their past 5 or so games have been trailing, and have had to come back in the 3rd period. Later in the year, this will not hold up especially if they verse a good team that is able to hold a lead. Also, the 2nd line is still a problem that should be addressed soon. Rather than waiting, the Bruins should make a move soon to try to create chemistry with David Krejci and Jake DeBrusk. Acquiring a player like Taylor Hall will not happen, but if Kyle Palmieri or Tyler Toffoli are on the trade blocks for both the Devils and Kings, we should expect the Bruins to be interested in them.

Playoff Predictions:

The Bruins will not play the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round! My mind tells me that the Buffalo Sabres will fall all the way down to the number 1 wild card. This will mean that they will verse the Bruins (The Capitals will probably have a better regular-season record than the Bruins). This will probably go 5 games as the Bruins will clinch a spot to the next round.

This is where things get interesting. The Bruins could play the Maple Leafs or the Lightning. We will probably see the Lightning. This year though, the Bruins will defeat them because of the depth of the Bruins, but also the energy and the toughness of the Bruins. This series will take 6 games to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Capitals will be the toughest opponent yet. The star power of the Capitals is something that will help them in this series. Alexander Ovechkin, Evgeni Kuznetsov, John Carlson, and Nicklas Backstrom are elite players. Top that with Braden Holtby in net, the Bruins will have their struggles. They will be able to advance to the Stanley Cup though. This long and hard-fought series will take 7 games.

The Stanley Cup will be the Boston Bruins vs. Colorado Avalanche. Colorado has been the better team in the 2 regular season matchups so far, but the Bruins could use this to their advantage. The Bruins are a lot more different in the playoffs than as in the regular season. Their experience and want will pull the Bruins to the top of the league where they will hoist the Stanley Cup at home for the first time in nearly 50 years. Game 5 is when the Bruins will win the cup at home.

Conclusion: The Bruins will overcome their experiences after a bitter Game 7 loss to the St. Louis Blue to win the cup. The too old Bruins core will lead them to the Stanley Cup. This will be the last game the Zdeno Chara suits up for as he will retire in the offseason. Patrice Bergeron will become the next captain of the Boston Bruins in the 2020-21 season.

  2. This is great for me when I am at a family party and someone shoots me a question about the season, even though I don’t watch Hockey. Now I know how to respond with plenty of information to impress them about how much I know, thanks!

  3. I liked how you limited the number of teams you were mentioning because it made the post very easy to follow. On top of that, I liked how you said that the Bruins will have struggles but would eventually come out on top. End the Boston Championship drought!
